Lived in SA for 10 years. Started off with Specialised Infantry (2 years)a compnay called 32Batallion. Specialised unit of Africans that where once terrorists that we re-trained into a hell of a good bush fighting unit. Probably the best (non-specail forces unit) in the world for that terrain.
From there moved on to the "Recces" Recon regiment selection course and qualified as a Special Forces Operator. Their version/Equivalent of the SAS. Trained by many SAS instructors and some ex foreign legion instructors. Spent 5 years operational duty (all over the place) including 6 months advisory in the Gulf as the terrain is very similiar.
Great years but wouldn't do them again...lol
